Mental Health Week 2023 Challenge

Mental health is the second highest non-fatal burden in Australia… What can we do about it?

My name is Jamie, and this October, I’m raising funds for mental health.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, mental health is the second largest contributor to the non-fatal burden of disease in Australia and is in the top five for fatal burden.

Unfortunately, we don’t see the same focus placed on the funding of critical mental health research and support for people who need it most compared to other illnesses included in these reports.

It is not uncommon for our most vulnerable to have to wait weeks to get the support they need.

One of the things that helps to ground me when I’m struggling is music, whether that is listening to it, or playing it. For me, it forces me to be present in the moment.

So, I have decided that in the month of October I am going to challenge myself to write three songs to help raise funds for mental health research in Australia.

I would love it if you could sponsor me via the link at the end of this post and follow along on my journey.

All money raised over the month will be donated to Psychosis Australia to fund vital research.
